Its official, Mark Hughes has joined Man City as their manager. He has signed a three-year contract.

It will be interesting to see how the Man City fans take to a Man Utd legend.  As for Blackburn, they will have their work cut out finding a manager who can make limited funds stretch.

Mourinho's targets

The Telegraph has an article looking at who Mourinho is likely to target when he starts work as Inter manager.

The players that could be joining the ‘Special One’ include:

Frank Lampard
Chelsea
Inter badly need a new midfielder to play alongside Esteban Cambiasso, but will need to beat Chelsea’s offer of £130,000 a season.

Samuel Eto’o
Barcelona
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has renewed his contract, but the Italian champions want an out-and-out striker to partner him, and to relieve the 34-year-old Julio Cruz.

Ricardo Carvalho
Chelsea
Jose Mourinho may return to Chelsea to buy a proven defender to shore up Inter’s back four.

Mahamadou Diarra
Real Madrid
The Malian midfielder is thought to be another target after his late return from the African Nations Cup led to a falling-out with Real Madrid.

Ricardo Quaresma
Porto
Inter could offer £30 million for the Portuguese winger. Luis Figo has already nominated him as his successor.

Mourinho joins Inter

Jose Mourinho has been appointed as manager of Inter Milan and has signed a three-year deal.

Inter Milan have just won their third consecutive Serie A title, but in Europe they are lacking and it is hoped that Mourinho can help them in the Champions League.

The only question left now is, how many players will Mourinho take from Chelsea? Drogba and Lampard are strong candidates.

Babel injured

Ryan Babel has been ruled out of the Dutch squad for the Euro 2008 finals after suffering an ankle injury in training on Saturday.  Khalid Boulahrouz has been brought in as his replacement.

Its a shame really, because although I’m not a big fan of the position Benitez has been playing him at Liverpool , he did well for them.  I was looking forward to see him shine in this coming tournament.

FIFA congress votes for foreign quota

Looks like Sepp Blatter has got his way with his controversial “6+5 rule” rule which would limit the number of foreign players to 5 in each each team.

In a ballot at FIFA’s 58th Congress, associations voted overwhelmingly. However its not all over because the biggest and richest clubs in Europe and the European Union are against it, so don’t expect this to happen any time soon, if at all.

Chelsea sack Ten Cate

Chelsea have let go of Henk Ten Cate and it will come as a bit of a surprise to the Dutchman.

This is what he had to say on Tuesday:

“Half an hour before Chelsea made the message about Grant officially known, I was called by the chief executive Peter Kenyon.

“He informed me that the departure of Grant will not affect me. I’d rather go on that than all those newspaper reports.

“That appointment was long planned and therefore separate from recent developments.

“In January I had one such evaluation and then we said we would do again after the season. I have a contract until 2010.”
